Dear Grizzly Nation,

Thanks to the wonderful work of our staff, student leaders and parent volunteers we are off to a great start to the 2017-18 school year.  A special thank you to our student leaders in ASB, Band, Grizzly Achievement, LoHi and Cheer for their role in welcoming all of our Grizzlies back on campus. This was a great example of WE>I!

Los Osos High School is an amazing place to be.  Our staff are passionate about student success and really work hard to be lifelong learners.  This year as a school we are really focusing on engaging every Grizzly, build strong relationships and continue to prepare ALL students for success.  Creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere, making positive connections with each other and ensuring our Grizzlies have as many options as possible after graduation is what we want all of our students to experience.

I want all of our Grizzlies to know that our entire staff is dedicated to supporting and guiding you to success.  In addition, our teachers will work to equip our Grizzlies with the skills needed to be college AND career ready.  However, that success does not sit solely on the shoulders of the school. Success begins with learning to possess a growth mindset which is the belief that qualities can chance and everyone’s intelligence and abilities can improve.  This includes taking ownership of your learning, displaying that Grizzly Grit through difficult times and working hard every day.  With that said, I challenge all Grizzlies come to school every day on time, complete all assignments and work hard to pass all classes with a C or higher.  By meeting these challenges our Grizzlies will be in position to meet their A-G requirements.  We know that the skills taught while completing the A-G requirements are the key for giving our Grizzlies multiple options beyond high school regardless of the path they take.

In years past the API was used by the state to measure a schools effectiveness based on CST scores.  This system has since been replaced by the California Dashboard.  The dashboard is a system designed to focus on five performance indicators to determine the effectiveness of a school.  These indicators are Graduation Rate, Suspension Rate, English Learner Performance, College & Career Indicator and Chronic Absenteeism.  Each indicator is scored based on a color wheel consisting of five colors (blue, green, yellow, orange & red).  Blue signifies the highest level of performance for an indicator and is the goal for all schools while the color red signifies the lowest level of performance.  Below is a link that has more information on the California Dashboard.

Parents, we want to continue to invite you in as a partner with our school and encourage you to be actively engaged in your child’s success.  In order to do that, it is imperative that you sign up for your personal School Loop account and monitor your students’ progress daily, stay in communication with teachers to build and maintain collaborative relationships and attend the many parent informative programs we will offer throughout the year.

I want to thank everyone for attending our Back to School Night event and I am extremely excited for this school year.

Claws up!

Important Message About Deliveries at School

We have examined the practice of dropping off items in our front office. This is a practice that local law enforcement and our school resource officer strongly recommend all schools not allow.  This practice also causes a major disruption in our guidance and front office area. Given the tragedies we have witnessed in schools across the country and the impact this practice has had on our campus, we have decided to take proactive steps to ensure a safe campus, therefore, no items will be accepted for drop off in our front office.  This includes, but is not limited to: food, phones, clothing, money, school work/materials and equipment.  If your son or daughter forgot to bring their lunch, please have them stop by our cafeteria and we will be sure to provide food for him or her.  Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and continued support in working together to provide a safe campus for all of our Grizzlies!
